Calligraphy is done on paper. Wood Carving is done on Wood.

In earlier centuries, when printing technology was in its infancy, publishing was done using the ancient method of writing the message on paper, an then having same characters carved onto piece of wood

This process is completed by applying a layer of ink onto the wood carving.
